As Britain went into lockdown, I teamed up with colleague Yanni Spiro to create a space for thinking together about challenges and ways to support couples relationships during the Covid-19 outbreak. As practising psychotherapists, we were concerned about the impact of the global pandemic on mental as well as physical health. We were also mindful that, even as reports indicated rising levels of anxiety and depression since the start of the outbreak, accessing professional help and public services for mental health support has for many become a greater challenge.
It is in this context that we sought to reach out to couples and individuals beyond our (now exclusively online) consulting rooms with our blog, ‘A to Z for Couples in the Time of Corona.’ Starting with ‘A for Anxiety,’ we have continued to explore an alphabet of issues and practices affecting our relationship to self and others during life in lockdown and beyond. We hope that you may find something here to help you navigate your way more safely, and perhaps more creatively, in these uncertain and often frustrating times.
